If you choose to apply for either of these funded residencies you must also submit the $10 application fee requested below. We also offer several fully funded residencies to Central Americans living in the region. We offer one $500 scholarship to each month long residency. We can support work that takes place outdoors, in shared space, in domestic space, and by creative producers who can bring their own equipment and materials. Some basic tools and materials may be available, but in general, artists should plan to bring anything they need or make arrangements to acquire materials while they are here (let us know if you need help facilitating this). Our umbrella organization, laberinto projects manages multiple projects and initiatives to support its' mission to foster contemporary art practices, social inclusion and dialogue in El Salvador and its diaspora through exhibitions, art education, artist residencies and community engagement initiatives. There will be opportunities for excursions, cultural visits and exchanges with working artists in El Salvador. Interactions with the cultural and environmental contexts of the location are encouraged. We believe that through this historic site and its mission we can foster deep knowledge and appreciation for the cultural heritage of the region. Take this time to work on, launch or finish an inspiring project, dream, connect with others, seek and find editorial or structural advice, and enjoy periods of solitude and sharing. A working knowledge of English or Spanish is helpful. We welcome collaborative applicants- if you are applying as a group you may submit one application. The residency fee includes shared housing at its unique site overlooking Lake Coatepeque, and daily lunches. Laberinto Institute provides opportunities for established and emerging artists alike. The residency is flexible but we suggest a minimum of three weeks. We strive to cultivate creative exploration by providing inspiring settings for artists, writers, curators, researchers and filmmakers to encourage intercultural, interdisciplinary and intergenerational dialogues. At this time, residency participants are carefully selected based on the quality of artists' work, the impact this residency will have and potential synergies with other residents. These residencies encourage a blend of writers, scholars, poets, musicians, actors, directors, artists and other creatives to come together for individual discovery and communal exchanges. This residency is perfect for those who seek more solitude and independence in their days- the time, space and clarity to create- but who also want a supportive and complementary group for inspiration and informal critique. Our self-directed residencies usher a unique experience in the Central American region. August The cost of a one month Self Directed Residency is $825.00 per month or $525 for two weeks (other timeframes negotiable).
